But in a future-oriented China, traditional hutongs have to change their appearance day by day. Renovations prepare the historic sites for the modern world. Will the three painters still find beauty and happiness in the hutongs? Director Emanuel Hänsenberger follows the painters Fucha Danqing, Zhang Yingxing and Rong Jingshen to the most hidden places of the sites to show their methods and fascinating work.
