Several members of Congress, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are traveling to Dearborn, Michigan on Tuesday to attend the funeral mass of former Rep. John Dingell, the longest-serving member of Congress in history. The 92-year-old, who had a heart attack in September, had entered hospice care last week, a source close to the family confirmed to CBS News. The cause of death has not yet been released.
Dingell's wife, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, announced that several politicians would be speaking at her husband's service, including former Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia, and Michigan Rep. Fred Upton. Dingell's former staffers will also be serving as pallbearers.
After the service, Dingell will be transferred to Washington where former President Bill Clinton, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and former House Speaker John Boehner would all be speaking at a memorial service at the at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday.
The historian for the House of Representatives noted that Dingell served with 2,427 members of the House, 11 presidents and 11 speakers of the House.
